 Johannes Høsflot Klæbo has won a record 43 individual World Cup sprint
events. This season, he won three individual sprints, including the most
recent one, in Goms on 27 January.
 Klæbo won the most recent sprint World Cup on Canadian snow, the sprint
freestyle at World Cup Final in Quebec on 22 March 2019. Only Emil
Jönsson (5) won more than one individual sprint World Cup event in
Canada.
 Klæbo has won 22 of the last 23 individual freestyle sprint events in the
World Cup he competed in, with a second place behind Federico Pellegrino
in Davos on 17 December 2022 as the only exception.
 Erik Valnes leads the World Cup sprint standings, 34 points ahead of
compatriot Klæbo.
 Valnes has yet to win a individual freestyle sprint event in the World Cup.
His best result is a second place in Falun on 18 March 2023. In contrast, he
finished on the podium in each of his last five World Cup starts in sprint
classic events: 2nd-3rd-1st-2nd-1st.
 Harald Østberg Amundsen leads the overall World Cup. His best result in
an individual sprint event is a third place in the freestyle sprint in Trondheim
on 15 December 2023.
Other contenders
 Lucas Chanavat finished first (2) or second (3) in his last five starts in
freestyle sprint events, including two wins in the Tour de Ski (in Toblach
and in Davos).
 Chanavat can become the second French skier to win three individual
World Cup events in a single season, after Vincent Vittoz in 2004/05 (3)
and in 2007/08 (3).
 Chanavat (20) has surpassed Richard Jouve (19) in the most World Cup
podium finishes in individual events among French men. Jouve recorded all
of his four wins in sprint classic style events, Chanavat in the sprint
freestyle.
 Only Johannes Høsflot Klæbo (43) claimed as many men’s individual World
Cup sprint victories as Federico Pellegrino (17).
 Sixteen of Pellegrino’s 17 individual World Cup sprint wins came in
freestyle events. The exception was his sprint classic style victory in
Canmore on 8 March 2016.
 Valerio Grond can become the first Swiss man to win an individual World
Cup event since Dario Cologna in Oslo in March 2018 (50km freestyle).
 Cologna (December 2011, January 2012) and Christoph Eigenmann (Tour
de Ski, 31 December 2006) are the Swiss men to have won individual
sprint events in the World Cup.
Ben Ogden could become the first USA man to win an individual World
Cup event since Simeon Hamilton won the sprint freestyle in Lenzerheide
in the Tour de Ski on 31 December 2013.

Linn Svahn
 Linn Svahn has won the last four individual World Cup sprint events. Last
season, Kristine Stavås Skistad was the only woman to win four successive
World Cup sprints (all in March 2023).
 Svahn can become the third woman to win at least five successive
individual World Cup sprint events, after Marit Bjørgen (11 in a row in 2003-
2005) and her Swedish compatriot Maja Dahlqvist (5 in 2021).
 Svahn (11) can equal Kikkan Randall (12) on sixth-most individual World
Cup sprint victories. Bente Skari (17) is in fifth place.
 Only Marit Bjørgen (15) and Stina Nilsson (12) won as many individual
World Cup sprints before their 25th birthday as Svahn (11). Svahn does not
turn 25 until 9 December.
 Sweden has won six of the seven individual World Cup sprints this season.
Only in 2018/19 (7) did Sweden claim more individual World Cup sprint
victories.
 Sweden swept the podium in each of the last two individual World Cup
sprints, in Oberhof and Goms. It can become the first country to record
three successive clean sweeps in women’s World Cup sprints.
 Coming into this weekend, the only Swedish woman to have won an
individual World Cup event in Canmore was Charlotte Kalla, who won the
10km freestyle in February 2010.
Other contenders
 This will be the first individual World Cup sprint freestyle event in Canmore
since 16 December 2012, when Maiken Caspersen Falla claimed the
victory ahead of Kikkan Randall (2nd) and Celine Brun-Lie (3rd).
 Kristine Stavås Skistad is the only non-Swedish woman to have won an
individual sprint World Cup this season, in Trondheim on 15 December
2023. Only Svahn (6) claimed as many podium finishes in World Cup
sprints this season as Skistad (5).
 Norway has won three individual women’s sprint World Cups in Canada,
including the last two sprint events in Canmore: Maiken Caspersen Falla in
December 2012 (freestyle) and March 2016 (classic style).
 Emma Ribom has won one individual World Cup freestyle sprint event, in
Lillehammer on 3 December 2022. Sweden won a joint-record three
individual women’s sprint event in Canada, but none of these was in
Canmore.
 Jessica Diggins can become the second woman representing United
States to win a World Cup sprint event on Canadian snow, after Kikkan
Randall in Quebec on 8 December 2012. Randall finished second in the
sprint freestyle in Canmore a week later (15 December 2012).
