Norway
 Norwegian skiers have won the last 21 individual men’s distance World
Cup events, since Finland’s Iivo Niskanen in Lahti on 27 February 2022
(15km classic stle).
 Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget leads this season’s distance World Cup. His
two individual distance World Cup wins were both in classic style events, in
Oslo in March 2022 and in Ruka last week.
 Jan Thomas Jenssen can become the first Norwegian male cross-country
skier other than Johannes Høsflot Klæbo to win back-to-back individual
World Cup events since Martin Johnsrud Sundby in December 2016.
Sundby won the overall 3-Days Tour and the 30km freestyle in Davos back
then. Sundby was also the last to win back-to-back race events: 15km
classic style and 9km pursuit freestyle in January 2016 (Tour de Ski
2015/16).
 Pål Golberg won the distance crystal globe last season ahead of Johannes
Høsflot Klæbo in second place. Golberg had a 104-point advantage over
Klæbo after all 17 events.
 Golberg’s only individual World Cup victory in a freestyle event came in the
10km in Toblach on 4 February 2023.
 Simen Hegstad Krüger could claim his 10th individual World Cup win. All
previous nine came in freestyle distance events.
Other contenders
 No male cross-country skier finished in the top five in both World Cup
distance events this season.
 Gällivare host a men’s World cup event for the first time since November
2012, when Martin Johnsrud Sundby won the 15km freestyle on 24
November 2012 and the Norwegian team won the 4×7.5km relay the next
day.
 Alvar Myhlback (17y-314d) is set to make his World Cup debut in
Gällivare. The youngest male cross-country skier to win an individual World
Cup event was Petter Northug (20y-061d) in the skiathlon in Falun on 8
March 2006.
 The youngest male cross-country skier on the podium of an individual
World Cup event was Vladimir Smirnov (2nd, 20y-016d) in the 15km classic
style in Murmansk on 23 March 1984.
 The youngest Swedish male skier on an individual World Cup podium was
Per Elofsson (20y-343d) in the 10km freestyle in Falun in March 1998 (3rd).
 The only male teenager to finish in the top five in an individual World Cup
event was Uwe Bellmann (19y-100d) in the 15km classic style in January
1982 (5th).
 In the women’s World Cup, Gaby Nestler (18y-329d) is the youngest
individual winner (10km freestyle in Les Saisies in January 1986) and
Gabriele Hess (17y-289d) is the youngest on an individual podium (2nd in
the 30km freestyle in Klingenthal in January 1989).
 Andrew Musgrave is currently second in this season’s distance World Cup
standings. Musgrave (one second place, two third places) is chasing his
first individual World Cup win
